Tomoko windsurfs, kite surfs, stand-up paddles, and snowboards. She travels the world half the year, searching for the best wind, waves, and snow for that ultimate challenging experience.
In addition, Tomoko started the Sakura Camp several years ago. The camp is a windsurfing and wave-riding camp for women. Tomoko writes, “Its purpose is to cultivate friendships and provide an environment that allows women to pursue these activities.”
She also organizes a girls’ kite summit (a kite camp for women). The summit is held in the Yaeyama Islands near Okinawa, Japan at various times of the year.
She says, “The quickest way to make us feel we have to protect the environment is by playing outside and coming in contact with nature.”
Tomoko expresses, “To live simple: my big purpose is to lead a life of little excess, and it’s not easily done. But it’s a worthy goal for the environmental and for myself. Whenever I go shopping, I try to remember the words of someone I respect- don’t buy this unless you really need it. It’s important to not consume, and to use things with care before recycling.”
