Last year, my mom introduced me to paddle boarding and I instantly fell in love with it. I was given my first board for Christmas that year, an inflatable touring board, and my mom and I brought ours everywhere, even into our own pool. We built balance on our boards by doing yoga, since my mom is a yoga instructor. But the Paddle Festival that takes place in Arizona every spring changed my life.
When we went to the Paddle Festival, I was introduced to some of the best paddle board racers I had ever met, Rob Griffin and Steffi Schulz. Rob took me out into the water on one of his race boards and taught me the crossbow turn and a normal stroke as my first lesson. I was so excited and begged Mom for a race board for my birthday. My mom and grandmother went in on a used King’s race board and one of Rob’s Hippostick paddles for my birthday and I immediately began racing and training with my amazing coach, Rob Griffin. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have had so much passion for racing.
Our family’s mission is to expand the paddling community in Arizona since it is so new. With my mom introducing paddleboards through yoga and myself through racing, we are hoping to show all of the amazing places available to paddle year round in Arizona and to bring more races to our beautiful state.
I am honored to be one of Newf Surfboard Net’s ambassadors and to be able to promote their wonderful products. Thank you so much for everything and I am so excited for my races to come and to be able to use your products. It is so important to take care of the world that we live in and I am so honored to be working with someone who shares the passion for keeping our environment great.
